Southern Italy
Puglia
The south that the world overlooked, and is only now beginning to discover.
Puglia is the long heel of Italy's boot, and for a long time much of the world overlooked it. That is changing. The region's trulli farmhouses, ancient olive groves, whitewashed towns, and Adriatic coastline have found the audience they always deserved. Groups who arrive before it becomes a fixture on every itinerary still find something close to discovery.
Puglia's hospitality is not performed. It is simply the way the region operates, shaped by a culture where feeding guests well is a matter of principle. The masserie, the old farm estates converted to refined accommodation, offer a particularly Puglian experience: deep comfort, local produce, and a setting that has not been manufactured for tourism.
Best time to visit
May through June, September through October
The south at its most hospitable. The heat of July and August is real. Spring and early autumn offer the full Puglian experience without the intensity.
Best for
- Food and culture groups
- Small group journeys
- Private group experiences
- Off-the-beaten-path travelers
From the field
“Trulli at dusk, the limestone cooling, swallows in the sky above Alberobello.”
“Burrata made this morning, bread from the wood-fired bakery around the corner.”
“A masseria courtyard at night, lanterns, oleander, absolute quiet.”
